For the Sake of Art

For the Sake of Art

The Advisory Board of the University Museum of Texas Southern University is delighted to announce the second annual fundraiser in the Museum’s eleven year history, For the Sake of Art 2012.

As with many institutions the University Museum is battling budgetary cuts with the Arts, in all its forms being particularly affected. With funds raised through this event we are ensuring the
legacy of the TSU Art Department founders, Dr. John Biggers and Professor Carroll Harris Simms.

For the Sake of Art 2012 will highlight the Permanent Collection with a wearable art competition open to artists and designers from around the country. They will be invited to submit designs based on their interpretation of one of 40 artworks from the over 300 pieces in the Permanent Collection.

The University Museum is once again honored to welcome the energetic and visionary services
of Houston designer, Toni Whitaker as our competition co-ordinator. She has formed an exciting
panel of jurors -- all respected designers and artists. We are honored to also welcome Tina Knowles, the well-known Houston designer, who will be supporting the jurors in a special presentation for the most commercial design. The winners will be announced after the top ten designs are modeled, interviewed and judged by the panel at the Cocktail Reception to be held at the University Museum on Saturday, June 9th, 2012 at 7pm. On view will be the beautiful exhibition Treasures from from the Permanent Collection featuring major gifts to the Museum never before exhibited.
